The 4th of July Makawao Stampede 2026, one of Upcountry Maui’s most anticipated annual events, will kick off on Friday, July 3, 2026, with the Bull Bash, followed by the first night performance on Saturday, the 4th of July, and commencing with the Championship Performance on Sunday, July 5th. This year’s events will feature over 300 competitors from around the world battling for buckles in extreme sporting events like Bull Riding, Double Mugging, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, Tie Down Roping, Match Barrel Racing, and more!
The 4th of July Makawao Stampede has grown from a local ranching competition into an internationally recognized event that attracts competitors from Hawaii, the mainland United States, and Australia, making it a cornerstone of Pacific rodeo culture. The Makawao Stampede will showcase skills such as Po’o Wai U (Hawaiian-style cattle roping) not seen anywhere else in the world.

ABOUT KAONOULU RANCH
Kaonoulu Ranch, home to the Oskie Rice Event Center, has played a significant role in Maui rodeo history. Since its purchase in August 1916 by Harold W. “Pop” Rice, Kaonoulu Ranch has laid the foundation for rodeo tradition on Maui. The ranch has been instrumental in promoting and sustaining the Paniolo heritage, which is a vital part of Hawaii’s cultural history.
